Every year, grains worth crores of rupees are wasted in our country, where lakhs of people are unable to get two meals a day. According to the Global Hunger Index released in 2022, our country was ranked 107th out of 121 countries. Earlier in 2021, the country was at 101st position
Now you can imagine how dire the situation in the country can be in the future and the situation is similar in many countries of the world. According to 2022 data from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, 7830 lacs people around the world are facing hunger every day. On the other hand, statistics show that every year millions of tons of produce and food items are wasted in the world.
On Food Loss Awareness Day, it is very important to think about this complex problem that is increasing in the world, otherwise the whole world will suffer from this epidemic and the whole world will have to face starvation. The thing to consider is that despite being self-sufficient in food grain production, the country is facing this type of problem. The biggest reason behind this is wastage of food because crores of tonne of food gets wasted in our country.
According to the United Nations, about 30% of food is wasted. A large part of the food prepared at home, hotels and big events goes into the dustbin. The amount of food that people in big and rich countries waste is barely enough to be produced in the whole of sub-Saharan Africa. Rising grain prices and starvation led to riots in some countries, leading to a conference on food crisis. Had to call.
Due to lack of proper maintenance of grain storage, lakhs of tonnes of production is lost every year. Due to rain, lakhs of tonnes of grains lying in the open rot. It is necessary for the concerned institutions and the government to pay attention to this so that the production can be properly protected.
Due to increasing modernity and in the process of showing off to each other, millions of tonnes of food is being wasted. People prepare different types of dishes in their events and people take a little portion of each dish and leave the leftovers, due to which a lot of food ends up in the dustbin.
We all have to understand the importance of food and take a pledge that we will not waste food. Even if food is left, it will have to be distributed among the needy by contacting orphanages, old age homes and voluntary organizations so that no one becomes a victim of starvation and millions of people can be fed, this small initiative of ours can save the world from a big trouble.
